The Michelson-Morley Experiment

Why is it interesting?

The Michelson-Morley experiment discovered that the speed of light is constant in all inertial frames of reference. This lead to the insight that Newtonian mechanics must be replaced with special relativity.

Layman

Explanations in this section should contain no formulas, but instead colloquial things like you would hear them during a coffee break or at a cocktail party.

In this section things should be explained by analogy and with pictures and, if necessary, some formulas.
